Understanding the Difference: Brake Pads vs. Rotors

Your vehicle’s braking system relies on two key components: brake pads and rotors. Together, they work to bring your car to a safe and controlled stop.

Brake pads are the friction material that presses against the rotors when you apply the brakes. Over time, these pads wear down due to heat and pressure, and need to be replaced regularly—typically every 40,000 to 60,000 km, depending on driving habits.

Rotors (or brake discs) are the smooth, round metal surfaces that the pads clamp onto. They can also wear or warp over time, especially from aggressive braking or heat buildup. Signs of rotor issues include vibrations or a pulsing brake pedal.

Keeping both components in good condition ensures safe stopping, extends brake life, and prevents costly repairs down the road. Regular inspections and timely service help maintain braking performance and keep you safe on the road.
